The Medievalist

Far away and long ago, there were brand-new castles, shining precious treasure, beautiful ceramics, and lots of pits. I mean, a LOT of pits. And postholes. And some not-so-beautiful ceramics. There were also Vikings sailing in tall, fair ships, and handsome sturdy villages which made and traded just about anything. Mysterious Arabic coins ended up in Norway, and Irish slaves went to Byzantium. The Early Middle Ages was far from a Dark Age, and archaeology is shedding more light on it every day.
